No surprise that my Lichen Ribbed Socks are finished. They knit up really quickly, especially as I pushed to finish them this weekend in order to gift them to a friend as a house warming present. A hand knit pair of socks will very literally make a new house feel warmer, right? Besides they're the perfect colour scheme for her and the size looked about right too!

I squeaked through with less than 2 grams of the main colour left. That's ideal really. The whole stash-busting thing worked out pretty well, I'd say.

Next up for my Year of Projects are Gentleman's Sock with Lozenge Pattern. The look of the sock reminds me of Business Casual Socks that seem to be all over the blogosphere these days. The pattern is written for 80 sts on size 0 needles for a pair of men's large socks from 600 yards of yarn, however I'm working with about 435 yards so some serious modifications are called for! I've cast on 72 sts on size 1 needles with the intention to decrease after the cuff to 70 sts for the leg. The yarn is Top Cat from Wandering Cat Yarns - it's quite plump and lofty, so the larger needles are a better choice I think. As well I'm skipping one round of ribbing in each repeat of the cuff pattern and plan to shorten the legs to mid-calf. Hopefully after all of that I can manage the pair with the yarn I have.

Fingers crossed that your calculations are true. I find I try to do that with shawl knitting with sock yarn and I never get it right. LOL! I usually have to grab a leftover that is similar in color to bind off. Love the finished socks. So calming.

The stitch pattern is going to show up nicely in that bright colorway!

Love the name of "lozenge" socks...they do have the shape of a lozenge! LOL! Very nice.
I love the "celery" color of your next pair. I have yet to try DPN's but they're coming up! I've done 2 pair of socks with Magic Loop. Now I know who I can email if I have a problem with the DPN's! LOL!

I love those socks .....which ones? BOTH!

I pinned the Business Casual socks. I think Steve might like those.

The ones you are working on remind me of Catherine too. Great patterns all.

Oh I love the finished socks and I can't think of a better housewarming gift than something to actually keep you warm ! Love the look of the Gentleman's socks although they look like they are more for a lady, well to my eye anyway, the whole thought of less yarn than stated and different needles and figuring out heels with less than stated no of stitches, well quite frankly breaks me out in a sweat and I'm going to have to figure it out as my foot is quite small and a lot of patterns I've found I'll have to adjust down.

I have that book on vintage socks. Later this year I plan to take it with me on my extended, I'm-celebrating-my-retirement-holiday. I am aiming to knit 4 pairs in four weeks!
