Finished Object Friday

Pattern: Gentleman's Sock for Evening Wear

Yarn: Sock Luck from Studio June Yarn

Needles: size 1 (2.25 mm)

Modifications: Shortened ribbing of cuff, shortened stockinette section below cuff, skipped one repeat on leg to squeak through with one skein.

Comments: I want to like these socks but I just don't. I love the yarn but I think it's too thin for this pattern and the resulting fabric is too lightweight. This yarn would suit size 0 (2mm) much better I think. And the pattern? Meh. It's mostly a vanilla sock and the lace pattern down the front of the sock is not very attractive. Big wavy purl ridges that aren't really my thing. The socks are in time out until I decide what to do. Mostly I think I'm going to rip them out and salvage the yarn for a different pattern. I'm just working up the nerve to start ripping.

It's a blustery, stormy, rainy Friday. I'm linking up with the gang at Tami's Amis. Take a minute, grab a hot cup of coffee and go have a look at the parade of finished objects there!

Sorry to read you are not very content with the pattern. The socks look pretty on the picture, but I have not a clue how it is to wear them. Hope you will have a lovely weekend!

I like the socks!
Do you really want frog it?!
Maybe knit another pair of socks? You knit socks so quickly, so, if you want, go ahead!
Good Luck!

The look pretty in the picture, but if you don't like them, won't wear them, and don't know anyone that WOULD like them ... rip you must. That yarn is much to pretty a pink to not see the light of day once in awhile (Or the inside of a shoe as the case may be.)

Pretty color and good job!

Oh no! Not the ripping. They look fine, but you've got to live with them, so do what makes you happy. It'll be like getting new yarn? LOL

If you hate the socks, you have a couple of choices:
1. Release the yarn for another project (i.e., FROG)
2. Gift them to someone that loves them
3. Sell them (not that anyone will pay what they're actually worth)
4. Leave them alone and hate them and never wear them and hand them down as a relic or something silly like that

Which would I choose? I'd probably gift them to someone...but that's because I wouldn't want to untangle the toe and then frog.

I think the color is especially nice, but if you don't like them, you'll never enjoy wearing them, take it from someone who knows. Sometimes I think I've frogged 100 miles of yarn.

aww it's sad that you don't love these socks - I think they are beautiful. Maybe the yarn wants to be a different pair?

Oh wow! You don't like the socks after all that work? Sorry it didn't click for you. I think they're pretty. But do what you think is best.

Sorry you don't like them! I know what you mean...sometimes I try REALLY hard to like something just because of all the work that went into them! Alas...sometimes the final product just doesn't deliver. I find yard selection to be much more difficult than I realized. I've made items that end up too thick or too thin...guess that's where swatching could be helpful. Look forward to your next object with the same yarn!

That's a total bummer, but it'll be worth it to find a project that suits the yarn better ... you'll always feel a bad mixture of emotions when you look at these socks otherwise. :(

I know what you mean about putting project in time out. I just finished ripping out a sweater I knitted a few years ago. Hopefully after being in time out a bit the socks will find their ways to be useful again.

Oh, no! Maybe the weather is contributing to your dislike of these socks. I can't feel the fabric where I sit, but they look awfully pretty.

Personally, I don't think I could bring myself to frog a whole finished pair - they'd just end up in the gift box for someone else.

Such a bummer that you don't love the pattern :(
I would say try to find a happy pattern to do before you tear these ones apart. (If you do decide to frog them)

I think the socks look wonderful, but then I don't have to wear them. Can you wrap them up as a gift, I am sure the recipient of such a gift would be delighted?

I vote to gift them also, but I have frogged one whole sock before and that was pretty liberating. what a bummer!

Sorry to hear you're not pleased with them, but from the picture they look awesome! Love the yarn choise.
